Configuring Disk Space Limit For Sender/Historian (version 23)
By default, the Sender and Historian will buffer or store data until there is only 1024 MB of disk space left, at which point, new data will be discarded. To change this limit, the following registry entries can be created:
- LowDiskLevel
- MinDiskLevel
*Note: Both the Sender and Historian use the same registry keys. If applying these registry settings to a collector machine that does not have a historian service installed, the 'Historian' registry key will need to be created.
LowDiskLevel
The LowDiskLevel registry entry is used to warn the user that disk space is running low prior to data being discarded. By default, the value is set to 2048 MB, at which point the Canary Admin will send out an email alert if configured to do so (see Configuring the Canary System to Send Email Alerts).
- Open the Registry Editor and navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Canary Labs\Historian. (*If the Historian folder does not exist you will need to create it.)
- Create a new DWORD value and name it 'LowDiskLevel'.
- Double-click the entry to edit the value and set it to the desired limit in MB's.
- Click OK then restart the Sender/Historian service to pick up this change.
MinDiskLevel
The MinDiskLevel registry entry controls the limit as to when data is actually discarded. The same steps from above can be taken to add this entry. The MinDiskLevel should be set to a lower value than the LowDiskLevel.
