Snapshot and Validation Reports (version 24)

The reading and writing of data can sometimes become hindered if the historical archive has been manipulated in anyway. To help troubleshoot these issues, Canary offers a few diagnostic reports that may be useful in locating the problematic tags or HDB3 files that are causing them. The most common reasons include overlapping timestamps between files or gaps in the archive where tags do not have any TVQs.

To run these reports, open the Canary Admin and navigate to the Historian tile. From the DataSet screen, select the drop-down arrow from the HISTORIAN OPTIONS menu. The user can select the System Snapshot Report or the Extended Validation Report - All DataSets.

System Snapshot Report

The System Snapshot Report includes 3 files that provide general system information:

Extended Validation Report - All DataSets

The Extended Validation Report - All DataSets includes the two markdown files from above including a detailed csv file for each DataSet in the Historian. The csv files contain information about specific HDB3 files and tags within the DataSet. As such, the process for creating it can take hours depending on the number of tags and the amount of historical data.

Extended Validation Report - Single DataSet

If wishing to narrow the scope of the report, the user can select a single DataSet and choose the Extended Validation Report from the DATASET OPTIONS drop-down menu.

The report will include the markdown files along with a single csv file for the highlighted DataSet.

Extended Validation Report - Single Tag

The final report that can be run is for a specific tag. The user can run this report by navigating into the Tag Screen of a DataSet, selecting a tag from the list, and choosing the Extended Validation Report from the TAG OPTIONS menu.

The report will include all of the files from the System Snapshot Report along with a csv file containing detailed information about the tag.

All reports are saved to the Canary base path location which, by default, is located in C:\ProgramData\Canary\Historian\Snapshots.
