Configuring an Alert When a DataSet Stops Receiving Data (version 25)
To configure a DataSet to send an alert when it stops receiving data, the Canary system must first be configured to send email notifications. See Configuring the Canary System to Send Email Alerts. Once this is completed, individual DataSets can be configured.
By default, when a new DataSet is created, it is enabled to send an alert. If a DataSet existed prior to upgrading to v25, it will need to be enabled.
- Open the Canary Admin client and select the Historian tile.
- Click the Configuration tab at the bottom and select the desired DataSet from the list on the left.
- Check the box Email if no data received in x minutes and set the desired minutes.
- Optional - provide email address(es) of recipient(s) who will receive an alert email. Addresses are separated with semicolons (;) if sending to multiple recipients. If no email address is provided, the email will be sent to the recipient(s) configured in the Messages tile>Configuration>Email.
When the DataSet stops receiving data for the time allotted, an email with the subject Canary Historian Message is sent:
2022/06/13 14:04:56.948 | Warn | Historian | | (ServerName) [DataSetName] has not received any data in x minute(s)
When the DataSet starts receiving data again a new alert is sent:
2022/06/14 13:37:13.589 | Info | Historian | | (ServerName) Data has been received by [DataSetName]
