Really it depends more on the client count, meaning the number of individuals requesting data from live tags.  Whether it is ten thousands assets each with one tag, or one hundred assets each with a hundred tags, the real burden is based on live tags being monitored at one time.  That said, there are recommended performance solutions, including separating Views to a standalone 'client application server' and provisioning resources for that server.
