You would need to first create the lbs of scrap tag in the historian before you could write values to it. The Data Entry tool cannot create new tags. It can only write to tags that already exist. If you need to create a tag, you could do so with the CSV Collector or Calculations.

Within the app, you could use several different controls to display the total from 8 to 8 or even show the total per hour if you were using a bar chart. I don't think that would be a problem. All of our gauges make use of a start time, duration, and aggregate if you are wanting to display something other than the last raw value.
