Continuously repeating "Validating File"

In our Messages log I'm seeing repeated instances of historian files trying to be validated, then terminated, then validated over and over.
After it churns for a while, it will say "Completed in <x> sec", only to start the validation over again maybe 15 or 20 minutes later (or longer).

It's not happening for all the historian datasets, seems limited to only a couple.
Nor is it happening for all files in the given dataset, just a few consistently, some dating a month+ ago.

I'm new to Canary and trying to understand:
- Is this normal/expected behavior?
- If not, what could be causing the files to constantly be re-validating?
- If this is normal, what determines when the validation will eventually complete and stay complete?

For the file dated 20241016 it appears this started on 10/23.
I'm not aware of any changes to the system or the sites sending data that would cause this.

    Hi ,

That message indicates that the file is being modified by a tag writer requiring it to be validated again. If you want, you can temporarily turn background validation off on the DataSet and inspect the file.

To turn off validation, navigate to the Historian tile>Configuration screen. Select the DataSet from the list on the left and uncheck the Validate box on the right.

From there I would navigate to the DataSet screen and look at the file in question. If it has a clock icon on it, that means it has been modified since its last validation. Normally, only the last file in the DataSet has a clock on it because it is being actively written to.

You can manually validate a file by highlighting it then selecting the Validate button from the FILE drop-down menu in the bottom-left. If you validate the file manually and the clock icon appears again, that would definitely confirm that at least one tag is still inserting data into it. Some of our collectors have the ability to do historical inserts.

Thank you, I will try that and see what happens.
