Merge Tags at file level

Is it possible to merge history (within the same dataset) by adding new hdb3 file to the data set?

I see tags can be merged at the Views level which is a great option in many scenarios:

I have a large amount of historic data that I migrated into an instance of Canary on a dev server, and now I would like to transfer those hdb3 files to production which already has live data flowing in (same tags).

Is it as simple as choosing a cutover date, deleting any overlapping hdb3 files, and then just placing them all in the same folder?

Following! Backfill is such an interesting topic in Canary. I have done what you state before, backfill to a different dataset, then rename the files, move them into the dataset folder, and rescan. The tricky bit is right on the boundary. Since the last value of one file is typically set to the first value of the next file. I can't remember if a validation fixes that. So, I'm here for a refresher!
