Additional options for data archiving, cold storage, etc...
Per https://helpcenter.canarylabs.com/t/y4ypf3y/how-to-move-historical-data-to-a-temp-directory-for-cold-storage-version-26 we can use a "cold storage" approach to move data older than x to another location. While helpful, we can only use that data if we move whatever we need back temporarily when we need to use it:
"Once moved, the Historian is not aware of their existence unless they are manually placed back in their original folder (e.g. C:\Historian Data\[DataSetName]) and the Historian service is restarted or the file list for that DataSet is refreshed."
It would be nice if Axiom, Excel, Power BI, etc.... (so I guess really views) could pull from the cold storage location if asked to do so (e.g. "include cold storage" option somewhere that a user could select or simply Canary would look at the cold storage location depending on the time period the user selects).
Perhaps some other options would be an option to summarize data older than x by y. I haven't fully thought this through but maybe something along the lines of: Normally we might log data per second. But for files older than 5 years, we could select an aggregate and duration to store the data (e.g. last or min/max value per hour) allowing history at a reduced resolution and space.
