Canary Publisher Requirement for local Views Endpoint

Why does the Canary Publisher service require a local views service to be installed with it?
This section of the Publisher docs seem to indicate it can be used with a remote view service. If so, why require a local one?

it doesn't. As you pointed out in the link, you can configure the Publisher with an API token to connect to a remote Views. We just need to update the description to include "local or remote". Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
