Consume csv files without the Engineering units row

Hi everyone,

I have an operator's logs screen in Ignition processed as a dataset, which I later export as a csv file for Canary's csv collector to consume.

The problem I have is when I try to add the Engineering Units row to a dataset with data type defined columns. Ignition does not allow datasets with mixed data types, and I can only export the csv file without the Engineering Units row.

According to the resources available online, Canary expects the csv file with the format as shown in the first image (with engineering units row).

Is the Engineering units row in a row-based csv file necessary?

Is there a way to define the units is canary as a work around for not having the engineering units row?

Thank you,

  • Hi kbrinneman ,

Canary does not require a data type row. It will determine the data type based upon the values themselves. Out of curiosity, what Canary resource were you referring to?

  • Hi Steve,

Yes, I misread the documentation. The units row is not required and any row can be skipped with <SubHeaderCount> parameter.

Can you help with another issue?

I was able to configure the XML file, and my csv collector is consuming the files added to the directory specified in the SAF_ImportService.config file. However, none of the tags are showing in my Historian, and the dataset defined with parameter <Dataset> is also is not created as a new dataset in historian.

Could this be an issue with my configuration file or the format of my csv files?

    Thank you,

The easiest way for us to troubleshoot this would be to send us your csv file and your config. We can take a look at it and try it ourselves. Send it to support@canarylabs.com.
