Control Charts

It would be awesome if Canary could add a control chart to your existing lineup of controls in Axiom!

Thanks Todd.  Would the limits be user defined or pulled from a tag property in your use case?  Also, in your use case, would this chart be used only as a historic display or also need to display data in real time or 'live'?  If real time, how often would the Average need to update?

  • This behavior can in principle be emulated partially by using the upper and lower limits of a trend right?

    • Roald Ruiter You can set high and low limits on a trend. They are either fixed or linked to another tag that is on the chart. You can also add static lines to a chart that are fixed. This is all done through the 'Edit Trends' menu.

  • Control charts like this are definitely something a number of the plants in my company are interested in as well. I'm working on learning more about this, but I think the idea would be to calculate the UCL, Mean, and LCL values based on logged data and be able to plot and alarm off that.

To complicate things though, I think there would be different UCL/Mean/LCL values based on what material they were producing at the time. For example, from 10-12 today, I'm running material ABC on machine 1 so I want my control chart to be an x days look back at values for this machine and material and I want to see when I'm outside where I should be. We could assume that the "key item" for the chart (e.g. material) would be a tag that Canary would have.

I have more info on this and can elaborate further in the future if that would be helpful.

I think the attached from a previous discussion that Jeff and I had may also help here.

  • This would be a great feature. To make this work, this is what i would suggest:

Canary ought to integrate an organized asset structure to enhance its functionality. This involves establishing a dedicated section for the creation of products/grades, with corresponding storage in a SQL database. Within this framework, effective management of specifications linked to grades becomes imperative. Additionally, it is essential to implment start and end times associated with these specifications.

To facilitate dynamic tracking of changes over time, a product tag should be implemented. This tag would provide Product codes whenever new events occur, allowing for the seamless adjustment of graphical representations within predefined limits sourced from the SQL database. The objective is not to modify the data itself but to visualize it accurately within the specified limits as specified in SQL.
